Hi, neighbor.
Where homeowners DIY the front of their home, and we teach you along the way.
Most of us know the front of our home needs work. Almost nobody knows where to start.
What to buy. What order to do it in. And the tricks that make it look done right.
Adoorn is reimagining the front of the home, starting with the mailbox. So they’re here, giving homeowners the tools and the guidance to bring style, character and joy to the front of their home.
Three homes. Three different problems.
A mid-century modern in Lombard, red brick in Oswego, a brick ranch in South Chicago. Real homes, real homeowners, filmed on location. Nothing built for camera.
What she changes is small. What it does to the first impression is not.
Where to start
Three things to get right before you buy anything. They’re the same every time, and they’re the reason a front of home either comes together or doesn’t.
Work with what’s already there
Look at your trim, your brick, your door. Whatever you add should go with those, not fight them. This is where most projects go wrong.
Make a plan before you buy anything
Write down the five things you’re going to do and the order you’ll do them in. Primer before paint. Paint before plants. It sounds obvious, and it’s the step people skip.
Make sure it works from the sidewalk
Numbers big enough to actually read. Colors that stand out against the house instead of blending in. If you can’t tell from the street, it isn’t finished.
Sixty seconds, one rule.
Color, size and proportion, with a point of view. What we would do, and why.
How to actually do it.
Drills, anchors, brick and heights. The hands-on half, in the order you would do it.
The whole front. One day. Every time.
So here’s what we do. We show up at a real house, with homeowners who have never taken on the front of their home before. In one single day, start to finish, we turn it into the house people slow down for.
No contractor’s bid. No six-week timeline. Just the homeowners, their own two hands, and me as their guide.
Watch them do it themselves, then go upgrade the front of your home!
