Wall mount mailbox FAQs

Everything to know before choosing and installing a wall mount mailbox.

What is a wall mount mailbox, and how does it work?

A wall mount mailbox attaches to an exterior wall near the front door or porch for homes where the mail carrier delivers on foot. The carrier places mail through the top delivery door, and the homeowner retrieves it from the front compartment. It does not need a mounting post or curbside signal flag. If your home currently receives curbside delivery, contact your local postmaster before changing to a wall-mounted delivery location.

Wall mount vs. post mount mailbox: Which one do I need?

Choose a wall mount mailbox when your carrier already delivers mail to your front door, porch, or entryway. Choose a post mount mailbox when mail is delivered at the curb or roadside. One format is not better than the other. The right choice follows your existing delivery route. If you want to move delivery from the curb to the house, ask your local post office for permission before installing a wall mount.

Should I choose a locking or non-locking wall mount mailbox?

Choose the Non-Locking Wall Mount when quick, key-free access is the priority and mail theft is not a major concern at your address. Choose a Locking Wall Mount when you want incoming mail to drop into a compartment that requires a key for retrieval. Adoorn offers two locking sizes, Small and Large, so the locking decision is separate from the capacity decision.

What size wall mount mailbox should I choose?

Choose based on locking preference, mail volume, and how often you collect mail. The Non-Locking Wall Mount measures 10.25” H × 13.25” W × 3.75” D and holds several days of everyday mail. Locking Small measures 13.5” H × 15” W × 5.5” D and holds about two to three days of mail. Locking Large measures 18.5” H × 15” W × 7.5” D and holds about seven to 14 days. Large is the better fit for higher mail volume, travel, or less-frequent pickup.

Can a wall mount mailbox receive packages?

Adoorn Wall Mount Mailboxes are designed for letters, envelopes, catalogs, mailers, and small polybag-style deliveries. The locking models accommodate polybag-style packages up to approximately 13” × 12” × 2”. They are not intended for full-size shipping boxes. If you regularly receive boxed deliveries, pair your mailbox with an Adoorn Package Box rather than trying to fit larger parcels into the mail compartment.

Are Adoorn wall mount mailboxes weatherproof?

Yes. Adoorn Wall Mount Mailboxes use galvanized steel, a rust-resistant powder-coated finish, and weather-resistant sealing to help protect mail from rain and snow. For the best long-term performance, install the mailbox on a protected exterior wall or under an eave when possible. Keep the path clear, tighten loose hardware, and follow the care instructions supplied with the mailbox.

Are wall mount mailboxes USPS approved?

Residential wall-mounted mailboxes for door delivery are not required to carry a USPS Postmaster General approval seal. Adoorn Wall Mount Mailboxes meet USPS wall-mount size specifications. USPS recommends choosing a mailbox that can hold a normal day’s mail and placing it near the main entrance where the carrier can easily see and reach it. You must get your local postmaster’s permission before replacing curbside delivery with a wall-mounted mailbox.

How high should a wall mount mailbox be installed, and which surfaces work?

Adoorn’s installation guidance places the bottom of the mailbox approximately 55” to 65” above ground level, within comfortable reach of the carrier. The installation guides support solid wood, stucco, masonry, and vinyl siding when the correct drill bit and fasteners are used. Choose a level, visible location near the main entrance, follow the instructions for your model, and confirm local delivery expectations before drilling.

Does a wall mount mailbox need a post or an outgoing-mail flag?

No. A wall mount mailbox attaches directly to the home, so it does not use a mailbox post. It also does not need the exterior signal flag used on curbside mailboxes. Wall mounts are designed for incoming door delivery. If carrier pickup of outgoing mail is important to you, confirm the available pickup method with your local carrier or post office before choosing the installation location.

Which colors and address numbers work with Adoorn Wall Mount Mailboxes?

Color availability varies by model and current inventory, so use the live color swatches on each product page as the source of truth. Adoorn offers 4” Mailbox Address Numbers for mailbox-scale placement and 6” House Numbers for the home or garage facade. Choose a number finish with enough contrast to remain readable from the normal approach to your front door.
